The temperature change is always welcome after the hot, sultry days of summer.

The colors of the leaves are breathtaking.

And the season itself heralds so much promise of fun, with Halloween and Thanksgiving on the horizon.

You can make the most of the Fall by trying some unique date ideas that match the season.

Fall date ideas at home

1. Have a seasonal decorating competition
2. Switch out your cool summer bedroom look for a cozy Fall vibe

9. Experiment with aging software and freak yourselves out with how you’ll look in 50 years

Cheap Fall date ideas

1. Go apple picking 
2. Purchase a maple tree and plant it in your backyard, so in years to come you can enjoy Fall color
3. Walk in the park and challenge each other to catch a falling leaf – superstition says this will bring you good luck!
4. Start training together for a 5 km run- bonus points if you can find a Fall themed one. Fall is my favorite running season, as the temperature is just right to make it pleasant and invigorating as opposed to heart-attack inducing. It will also help keep you fit and healthy as the winter months approach
5. Watch the snow geese as they migrate from the South. A top spot for this includes Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge – between Kansas City and Omaha
6. Go out for pumpkin spice latte
7. Visit a pumpkin patch (then go back and try number 3 from Fall date ideas at home)
8. Set up your own vegetable planter and plant some broccoli, cauliflower and potatoes for winter eating goodness (here’s a selection of planters from Amazon)
9. Go to a Autumn festival and eat candy apples
10. Check out your local news for free concerts or other evening events.

1. Have a pumpkin carving contest (You’ll want this pumpkin carving kit)
2. Have a Fall photo competition. Get the winning image printed on canvas
3. Make a Thankful jar and commit to putting in something you’re thankful for every day
4. DIY a fire pit – perfect for Autumn evenings

7. Plan a fall flower garden, so this time next year you can enjoy the flowers

10. Create art from pressing fall leaves. You’ll need leaves, an ironing board and iron, two tea towels, wax paper, and a glass frame suitable for pressed flowers / leaves (such as this one). Select thin leaves – preferably ones you have gathered when walking together. Then:
    1. put a tea towel on your ironing board
    2. place your leaves between two sheets of wax paper
    3. place another tea towel on top
    4. iron over the leaves until the paper starts to seal
    5. iron for five seconds over each leaf
    6. carefully cut around the leaf and arrange in your frame.

1. Dress up in Halloween costumes and go out for dinner
